Welcome to SABS Christu Jyoti Province, Satna
It was in the plan of God that a religious congregation meant to foster and promote devotion to the Blessed Sacrament be established in due time. The Divine intervention manifested itself in the most amazing manner when Venerable Mar Thomas Kurialacherry became instrumental in realizing this dream. The Congregation of the Sisters of the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament was founded on 8th December 1908 at Champakulam, Archdiocese of Changanassery, Kerala, India, with the Charism “Devotion to the Holy Eucharist”. It had its origin from the deep, Eucharistic experience of Venerable Mar. Thomas Kurialacherry (1873-1925), the first Bishop of Changanachery, an ardent devotee of the Holy Eucharist. He got the inspiration that “Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament should always and everywhere be known, loved, and adored by all.” The strong and in-depth intuition gave him the impetus to found the congregation, and he shared
with Mother Mary Francisca De Chantal (1880-1973) who collaborated with him in founding the congregation. His Holiness Pope Paul VI raised the congregation to the Pontifical status on 11th February 1968. At present, there are 19 Provinces and 3 regions. Our Sisters (more than 5000) are rendering their services in 104 dioceses in different countries, including Africa.
SABS Congregation which originated in Kerala took root there and with its steady growth spread to all the Dioceses of Kerala. Sacred Heart Province, Ernakulam, carried the light of the Gospel towards the Northern parts of West Bengal among the tribals in Jalpaiguri diocese and established its first missionary convent at Demdima in 1968. In the following year (1969), Sisters were sent to central India, in Raipur Archdiocese at Nandini.
The onward journey of Christu Jyoti Missionaries was fastened by the divine providence of the Eucharistic Lord. At present, Christu Jyothi Province has 28 convents and 143 Sisters. Our Sisters work in different States of India. Our Sisters render their services in 14 Dioceses including Stuutgatt in Germany.
Recounting the great marvels of God and relishing the warm memories of His great providence in the life of Christu Jyoti Province, it is a matter of great proud and privilege to have the graceful existence of our Provincial House in the Eparchy of Satna. Our initial inspiration behind the starting of our Provincial House Cum Formation House at Pateri was none other than Mar Abraham D. Mattam, the then Bishop of Satna. The constant insistence and the inspirational influence of His Excellency as well as the felt need of the Congregation to have a Syro Malabar oriented formation of the young generation compelled the then Provincial Council to shift the Regional House and Formation House to the Eparchy of Satna. The year 26 February 2016 – 26th February 2017 was the Golden Jubilee of our entry into North India.
